Supportive Housing Program

Celebrating 55 Years of Service 1967 - 2022

A Commitment to Recovery. A Commitment to Quality.
Wayside's Supportive Housing Program is truly integrated with our Residential Treatment Program. Because we believe that a strong community is one of the most important aspects of a successful recovery, we allow all residents the opportunity to continue their relationship with Wayside in Supportive Housing.

All Supportive Housing clients start in our Residential Program, and selection is based upon suitability and availability. While we cannot guarantee that every client will transition into Supportive Housing, we are committed to providing all Wayside residents with a comprehensive Transition Plan.

Benefits of Community-Based Integrated Living

A mission-critical component to the continued success and recovery from substance dependency is the establishing of a support network that meets the needs of the individual. By integrating in the community through the supportive housing program, graduates of the residential program are given every opportunity to succeed. We believe that to sustain a successful recovery, maintaining a supportive environment is of the utmost importance.

The Relationship
  • Clients entering the supportive housing program maintain their primary counselor, which helps to ensure the seamless transition to housing and continuity of care. Wayside House of Hamilton believes that one of the most important success variables in substance dependency treatment is the positive therapeutic relationship with a primary care addictions professional.

Access to Resources
  • The supportive housing program affords access to many resources, and counselors work closely with their clients to ensure the continuation of treatment goals. Many clients elect to pursue education and employment upgrading, and are successful in doing so if given access to the right resources at the right time. The supportive housing program makes this possible.

Accountability
  • Individuals participating in the supportive housing program are held accountable to Wayside House of Hamilton through regular engagement, volunteering and participation, counselling sessions, and random urinalysis toxicology screenings. Individuals are also held accountable to their peers and encouraged to develop supportive relationships, fostering a positive environment for recovery.

Crisis Intervention & Stabilization
  • Individuals involved in the supportive housing program have 24/7 access to counselling services and crisis intervention. Relapse is unfortunately common in early recovery and Wayside House of Hamilton seeks to enable clients to turn what may be a negative experience into a learning opportunity. The process is not punitive, and individuals are encouraged to work through obstacles and barriers to their recovery. Individuals are supported through every part of the recovery process.

Engagement
  • Wayside House of Hamilton ensures a minimum of 3 significant engagements with the program per week, to ensure that clients are given every opportunity to maintain their recovery goals and provide consistency and continuity in treatment and care. As well, continuous engagement ensures that in the event of crisis, the client will have access to the appropriate resources at the right place, at the right time.
